I use audacity which works great and is a free program!
Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder
Free, fully-functional multi-track audio editor for Windows (98 and later), Macintosh (MacOS and OSX), and Linux.

TIP:
One of the most basic ways to cut a song to make it the right length is
to find a part in the song that you can use the fade out tool. Seclect
that section and choose fade out. This will give you a nice ending to
your song. This is especially good if: the song your using don’t have a
specific ending, or you don’t have much time and need the cut NOW!
music editor
I've used Sony/Sonic Soundforge for a few years, and I love it. I'm even able to edit out specific words - which is important for our 'family friendly' routines and audiences.
Music
We use Audacity too!
To make a fun CD for practice combine several songs and overlap them. Keep importing audio and putting them together. Try using two track layers. Cut and paste tracks to move them.
This way you never have to wait for the next song to start.
