MEET THE CREW
SARA ROHS: FOUNDER
Raised in Minnesota, Sara trained at many Twin Cities dance studios including Zenon Dance Company, Ballet Arts, Stage Door Dance for Performing Arts, The FIRM, Dance Spectrum, and the Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts. She continued her dance education by becoming a member of the Augsburg College Dance Team, later becoming its captain for three years and then its coach for four years. She was a member of the Swarm Performance Team with the Professional Lacrosse League in MN.
Sara started the Ascending Star Dance Team in 2004 and was the director and dancer 3 years. Sara taught for Just for Kix summer camps and hosted workshops with the Augsburg Dance Team. She was hired to dance professionally for various events.
Sara danced with the Milwaukee Brewer’s Diamond Dancers as well as the Madison area SweatShop Hip Hop Crew. After moving to Madison, Sara took courses with the UW Madison Dance Department.
In 2010, Sara started Madison Contemporary Vision Dance (MCVD). The company performs at numerous events around the Madison area and puts on an annual fall concert. MCVD teaches workshops and community classes for all ages at dance studios, community centers, libraries, and museums.
In 2011, Sara started the monthly Madison Community Dance Newsletter to connect dancers with local opportunities.
Sara has guest taught dance and choreographed for many dance studios and dance teams including college and professional dance teams and professional dance companies. She currently teaches at A Step Above Dance in Monona, WI and judges dance competitions throughout Wisconsin. In the fall of 2015, Sara started the Madtown Boys Hip Hop Crew.
Sara completed Lisa Howell’s Teacher Training Workshop in 2015.
CRYSTAL SUTHERLAND: MANAGER
Crystal recently graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, focusing her degree on pedagogy. The Wisconsin native is trained in rigorous modern technique and others such as ballet, improvisation, and West African. She is educated in dance composition, production, theory, anatomy, history, and pedagogy from qualified professionals. She has taken classes that have taught Cunningham, Trisha Brown, Alexander, Graham, Humphrey, and Petronio technique. Crystal has performed in a few pieces during her time in school under the direction of Taisha Paggett, Alicia Wilson, Rebecca Huang, Pamela McNeil, Dr. Lorenzo (Rennie) Harris, and Jessica Miller Tomlinson. She is currently a first-year member of Madison Contemporary Vision Dance in Madison, WI. She also teaches at A Leap Above Dance in Oregon, WI and Midwest Performing Arts in Waunakee, WI. Crystal plans to continue practicing her craft as a teaching artist, performer, and dancemaker in the Midwest. Visit her website: crystalesutherland.com
