Bellydancing UW was founded in the Spring of 2000 by Kerridwen Mangala and Leena in order to practice the choreographies and technique of their instructor, Mona N'wal. They were soon joined by Radhika, Amy, Yayuk, Courtney, Sabrina, and many other members, who helped create the organization as it stands today.
Bellydancing UW provides instruction for beginning, intermediate, and advanced dancers. Each semester, our organization welcomes 50-70 regular attendees in the beginners' class, where an experienced club member covers basic technique, which is synthesized into a choreography. Intermediate classes build on this foundation with a greater focus on complete dance pieces, many of which are performed by the club at events on campus and around Madison, including Helen C. House Party, Homecoming, and All Campus Party.
The Berkshire Ballet Theatre is Summers Academy of Dance's pre-professional training program for motivated dancers 12-20 years old.
Students learn through technique classes and performances in a creative and disciplined environment. Intermediate 1 and 2 students begin the classical syllabus which requires students to work carefully with much repetition in order to isolate the correct muscle groups required for turn-out, extension, and a strong jump. When a student is ready pointe training begins. Character dance, modern dance and floor barre are also introduced into training. Berkshire Ballet Theatre trainees, apprentices, and company dancers continue advanced classical ballet training including classical variations, pas de deux, repetoire.
This isn't an average place to learn dance- we've created a family. The goal at BAHS is and always will be to have fun while learning to dance & to harness self-confidence. We aren't striving to create & pump out "perfect dancers." The message I constantly tell the kids is to "embrace their inner weird", and not to be afraid to be themselves, whatever that might be!
Brookfield Center for the Arts, formerly Brookfield Dance Academy, has been a part of the community for 12 years. We are thrilled to share our love for the arts in the areas of dance, music, theatre and education. We believe that nurturing a child's creative potential stands at the core of preparing them for life. Creative activities are some of the building blocks of child development. So whether children grow to be choreographers or composers, or engineers and educators, encouraging your children to reach their greatest potential is our main goal. We are proud to serve the communities of Brookfield, Wauwatosa, New Berlin, Waukesha, Pewaukee, Menomonee Falls, Sussex and beyond.
CDR is unique compared to other dance schools and programs in the composition of the "company". CDR is composed of an elite group of local, talented, and dedicated students 10-18 years old. Company members become versatile dancers, taking classes and rehearsing in various styles of dance. Members take class and rehearse as a unit. There is a limited amount of dancers accepted to create more individual attention from the director/teachers and to create more opportunities for each dancer to grow technically and artistically. The dancers show their love and passion for dance through their work ethic in the studio and on stage. Members are recognized at competition and conventions, winning many scholarships and stand-out dancer awards.
The Cecchetti Council of America is an organization dedicated to maintaining the standards and method of ballet training established by Cav. Enrico Cecchetti. The organization uses his teaching and writings in a sequence of grades, carefully measured as to degree of difficulty and physical development, and provides a system of accredited examinations to test the student’s proficiency within those grades.
The CCA incorporated as a nonprofit educational association in 1951 and was the first organization in the United States to adapt a uniform system of teaching and examinations. Since that time, it has developed outstanding teachers as well as students who have danced professionally in ballet companies across the world.
The principal objective of the Cecchetti Council of America has always been to raise the quality of ballet teaching. This requires consistent attitudes of self-improvement and professional integrity on the part of each member teacher. The Council provides continuing educational opportunities through publications, refresher courses, and ballet conferences.
